Looking for Opportunity

1.      Creating a business that can expand country wide and have businesses throughout America, but also export product. I found that an economic trend we are currently experiencing is that “The Global Economy Will Continue to Be Powered by America”. I believe with this information that an opportunity exists to take advantage of the world’s reliance of America being the largest trade deficit. I believe the customer would be other countries governments. I believe the opportunity would be difficult to exploit because it involves starting from the bottom and working your way up. I believe others could see this opportunity because majority of Americans believe in the American Dream and working your way up the social class.
2.       An opportunity exists with the economic trend of the increase of pollution into our world. I found this information simply from the fact that trash in our world is building up, while climate change is rising. I believe that an opportunity exists with this because no significant change has been implemented that has changed our current pollution problems. I think everyone would be the consumer of a method to dispose of trash that is not harmful to Earth. . I believe the opportunity would be difficult to exploit because it is something that needs to be invented. I believe others could see this opportunity because it is a rising concern our world is facing.
3.       A regulatory change that just occurred in North Carolina is transgender individuals can use the bathroom of their choosing. I believe this creates an opportunity for bathroom sign producers to change their signs to be less offensive to these individuals. I believe the customer that would be open to this idea is people who are not offended by the changing world and transgender individuals. I think it would be easy to exploit with the current change being put into place. I think it will be half and half with people who believe this is an opportunity or not.

4.       A regulatory change that was put into place in California is it is the law to use your own bags for groceries and plastic bags are banned. I believe this creates an opportunity for green awareness companies to create different grocery reusable bags for different grocery needs. The customer would be citizens living in California, but also people around the world who want to “go green”. I believe the customer that would be open to this idea are more tree huggers who want to do right by the environment. I think it would be easy to exploit this product with the current law in effect. I believe others could see this opportunity because it meets their needs.

  1. I think all these articles were very relevant to large current events going on across the globe. They are most certainly very important issues that apply to a lot of what we learn as business students at UF! These definitely classify as top issues in society and are things that will affect the future of our world from today and on. These are also great examples of opportunities because we are provided with the tools to make necessary changes in order to change the outcome of the future. Very informative!

  2. Hey Kelly,

I completely agree with you about pollution in our world. Even just recently we had the situation in the Gulf of Mexico where thousands of gallons of oil spewed into the ocean. It seems like we will never learn from our mistakes and find alternatives.

  3. Hey Kelly,
Next time if you could include the links to the articles, I am a bit of a nerd and would have loved to read them. I thought your creative take on the transgender bathroom thing was brilliant. You took something that people would view from a personal problem or pro view and looked at it with a bigger scope. I loved that you saw it as a business opportunity, which is exactly what we are trying to learn how to do in this class. Great job!

  4. Hi Kelly!
This was a great read. I have looked into the pollution problem myself and I know that something that has been done to try and encourage businesses to be more eco-friendly is to offer tax breaks to businesses that reduce their carbon footprint. Hopefully it is a glimpse into our future. If you'd like to read my blog, feel free! http://jkilgore25ent.blogspot.com/2016/05/looking-for-opportunity.html

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Kelly,
I really liked all of the opportunities you found. I especially loved reading about the new law in California, I didn't know that had happened! I recently went on a sailing trip to conduct research on the amount of microplastics in our ocean, so this is very exciting. Great work!

  6. Kelly,

I liked that you touched on pollution - because I haven't yet read about that on anyone else's blogs. I think a lot of us wrote about the transgender bathroom situation in North Carolina, and really everywhere now, because it is so relevant and in our face at all times. Also, I had no idea about the plastic bag ban in California - that's actually really cool! A bit inconvenient to have to keep canvas bags with you at all times, but I'm interested to see if it sticks. Great post!

  7. Hi Kelly,
I really enjoyed reading about the different opportunities you found! You have a really diverse list. I really like the problem with the plastic bags in California. I have never understood how people can support plastic bags (made from petroleum!) because they are so harmful to the environment in so many ways. I didn't know that Cali had banned them, that's great! Overall, an excellent blog post!
